Family Lawyers Who Put Your Family First

Separation, divorce, parenting disputes, and property settlements are among the most difficult things families face. BJH Law provides clear guidance, firm advocacy, and the support you need to move forward.

Our Approach

Empathetic. Clear. Assertive When It Matters.

Family law matters involve more than legal rights. They affect where your children sleep, how you divide what you built together, and what your life looks like going forward. The emotional weight of that is real, and we do not lose sight of it.

BJH Law principal Bradford Hill has a particular interest in the intersection of criminal law, domestic violence, and family law. He understands that these areas often overlap and that a decision in one can have serious consequences in another.

We aim to resolve matters efficiently and without unnecessary conflict. Where the other side is not cooperating, we advocate firmly. You will always know what we are doing and why.

Most matters settle before trial

The vast majority of family law disputes resolve through negotiation or mediation. We push hard for a fair settlement because it is faster, cheaper, and less stressful than court.

Children's best interests come first

Every parenting decision is assessed against the legal standard: what is in the best interests of the child. We help you understand what that means for your specific situation.

Time limits apply

Property settlement applications must generally be filed within 12 months of a divorce, or 2 years after the end of a de facto relationship. Do not wait.

What We Handle

Family Law Services

Divorce & Separation

We guide you through the legal dissolution of marriage, including the 12-month separation requirement and the application process in the Federal Circuit and Family Court.

Property & Asset Settlement

Division of property, superannuation, business interests, and debt following separation. We negotiate firmly and, where needed, pursue your entitlements through court.

Parenting Orders & Custody

Arrangements for where children live, how much time they spend with each parent, and how major decisions are made. The focus is always on the best interests of the child.

Child Support

Advice on child support assessments, departures from the formula, and enforcement of payment obligations through the Child Support Agency or court orders.

Spousal Maintenance

Applications for ongoing financial support following separation where one party cannot meet their reasonable needs from their own income or assets.

De Facto Relationships

Property and parenting rights for de facto couples (including same-sex relationships) are covered under the Family Law Act. We advise on eligibility and entitlements.

Consent Orders

Where parties reach agreement, we formalise property or parenting arrangements as legally binding consent orders through the court without the need for a hearing.

Binding Financial Agreements

Pre-nuptial agreements, post-nuptial agreements, and separation agreements that provide certainty and protection without going through the court system.

The Process

What to Expect When You Work With Us

Free Initial Consultation

We explain your rights, likely entitlements, and the options available to you. You leave knowing where you stand and what the process ahead looks like. No cost.

Direct Negotiation

Where possible, we negotiate directly with the other party or their lawyer to reach an agreement without involving the court. Most family law matters settle this way.

Family Dispute Resolution

Before most parenting matters can proceed to court, Family Dispute Resolution (mediation) is required. We prepare you thoroughly and attend with you where permitted.

Consent Orders or Agreement

When agreement is reached, we formalise it properly. Consent orders are approved by the court and are legally enforceable. Binding Financial Agreements are drafted with care.

Court Proceedings

If agreement cannot be reached, we prepare and run your case in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. We present your position clearly and advocate strongly.

Final Orders

The court makes final orders on parenting or property. We continue to advise on compliance and enforcement, and assist with any variation applications if circumstances change.
